a much needed vacation
After 2 long years of school for Mike he will finally get a real vacation. Sure he had time off now and then, but his school never really allowed for time off. The spring break we got last year was intended for our house-hunting. So now we are officially going on a vacation, and we’re leaving this Friday.
It has become a tradition to have a little family reunion in Durango, Colorado every 3 years or so. The first reunion was back in 2005, but Mike and I were not able to attend. Mike was in Iraq, and I didn’t think that I could handle traveling with a 5-month-old and 20-month-old all by myself. Finally, we’ll get the opportunity this time around. Supposedly, there will be 48 people in attendance. We have a lot of fun stuff planned. I’ll definitely post lots of pictures (as I’m sure Jenni and Sara will, too) once we return. We can’t wait! The girls are quite ecstatic about it as well.
Here’s the latest about Mimi’s eye. It is looking a little better each day even though the purple is so dark and pronounced. Mimi is definitely not letting it change her attitude. She’s still the feisty and feral little girl that we all so love.

She could be going through her “emo” phase with all this dark “makeup.” But she’d have to be wearing more black I guess.
See you on Sunday!!!!

It’s a bit early for that, I hope. And, wishfully, she’ll never go through that phase.
Only 2 more days until our long, long, long trek west!!

It looks to be following the stages of healing, that’s for sure. Definitely looks worse before it looks better…
Have you noticed at all if it has effected her vision? I know that she’s young and it is difficult for her to understand and to express things like this, but is she seeing spots, blurred vision, halo’s, or anything like that?
These pictures of her are just darling. I hate that this happened to her, but she sure does look adorable all beat up.

Maggie-
Mimi doesn’t seem to exhibit any vision problems. I suppose it would be difficult to get her to tell us if she was having strange symptoms. My hope is that she would notice something off and would at least attempt to tell us in her own way. On several occasions though I have covered the good eye and will pick up something random for her to identify and will ask the color, shape, etc.
I have to admit, too, that I find that her shiner gives her a little character. We have friends that call her “bruiser” because of her tendency to not be deterred by falls, scrapes, bumps, or bruises. The shiner would seem appropriate for her personality.

Don’t the injuries look worse a few days later? Jackson practically broke his nose the other day and it looks so much darker now. At least the swelling is down. I wish I had thought to take pictures each day and post them, alas I only did it the day of the injury.

Denise-
Yes, it does seem that the bruise looked much worse than when it first happened. At least she doesn’t still have that huge “sac” over her eye. It had it’s own pulse.

Jen, this is my first attempt to go from Maggie’s Blog to Yours. How easy was that? I was sorry to see Mimi’s dark eye, however I am glad that it is healing. Also, I love family reunions. My husbands family has them quite often now, as his Mother is in her 102nd year of life and we are not sure how many more that she will be around for. When you all get settled in your new home, we should try to plan a Hauer reunion as all of my cousins are scattered all over the USA and my Aunt Barbara is still alive and living in Maryland by the coast. Was just told this site had a server problem, hope this goes thru eventually.

Hey Auntie Pam,
Glad to see you finally stop by. I heard my mom made a visit recently. Hope all is well with you guys. A reunion would be fun. I can’t believe Jim’s mom is 102! Wow!
