geese, flu shots, and other fun stuff

Since he’s a veteran Mike received Veteran’s Day off from work. However, he only got Tuesday off, whereas our friends at other bases got Monday and Tuesday off which gave them a 4-day weekend. Oh well, Mike still enjoyed his day off and went on 2 hunting excursions. The first was an early morning outing for geese. Mike’s luck was with him, and he returned home proudly with 2 geese. Mike decided Lucy needed to get warmed up for her pheasant-hunting trip next week in SD. Together they traveled to Bong Recreation area (yes, that’s the real name) to hunt pheasant. Apparently, the park puts out pheasants each day for hunters. Unfortunately, Mike’s luck was spent on the geese, and he and Lucy returned empty-handed. I’m sure they’ll have success in SD; they always have in the past.

So yesterday Mike calls me to tell me that the base is offering free flu shots to dependents (that would be the girls and me) and to go right then to get them done. However, Annie was in school, and I didn’t want to make 2 trips. Fortunately, Annie’s school lets out an hour and 15 minutes early on Wednesdays. I called up the immunizations clinic and found out that their last injection is given at 3:30 giving us enough time to get there for that last injection. In spite of that, it seemed everything was working against us. I’ll list out the bad luck we had.
1. Annie’s bus arrived home 15 minutes late.
2. The traffic was unusually heavy on the way to base.
4. I arrived to base at 3:05. My base entry stickers were expired, and they guards wouldn’t let me enter until I got new stickers.
4. I went to get new stickers and had to go back and forth to my car 3 times to obtain the proper documentation for new stickers.
5. I got lost finding the hospital. Base is all made up of one-ways, so I had to loop all the way back to the front of base to get back on route to the hospital adding several minutes to my journey.
6. Finally, we arrived to the immunization clinic at 3:27 only to be told we needed to bring our medical records with us, new policy that started this year. However, our medical records are with our civilian doctors back in Kenosha.
7. We had to go to the patient records office to see if they could issue “temporary” records. There was a sign on the door that said, “Be back in 5 minutes.” The records lady arrived but promptly told us that they don’t issue “temporary” records in a scolding tone. Grrr!
8. We went back to the immunizations office to plead our case.
9. They finally gave in and allowed us to get immunized.
10. Mimi freaked out when she thought she was going be getting a shot.
11. She was quickly calmed when she was told she was just getting a squirt in each nostril. She did fine.
12. Annie freaked out when she realized that something was going to be squirted up her nose. We eventually convinced her it would be okay.
13. They made me get a shot:( My arm hurts today.

Mimi hearts Lucy. She asked me to take this picture.

Ok, one more quick story. Mike received his new jumpsuit in the mail on Tuesday. When he pulled it out of the package to show the girls, Annie was giddy with excitement. She exclaimed, “Daddy, you should wear it to your church meeting tonight!” I started laughing so hard that I could hardly breath. Mike couldn’t understand what was so funny. I said that we should’ve recorded that statement from Annie and play it for her again when she’s a teenager to see if she still feels the same about Daddy wearing his jumpsuit.

Annie insisted on taking this picture of her Daddy in his new jumpsuit.

Holy cannoli! I’d almost rather get the flu than have to deal with your list of things working against you. Mike looks just swell in his new jumpsuit. And Mimi and Lucy are very cute! Heeheehee that Annie loves the jumpsuit and wanted him to wear it to his church meeting! I would have laughed until I cried too. Annie really needs her own jumpsuit.

Nice pictures. Will Mike wash his truck, or is that the cool look? I like the geese’s necks all floppy like that. My personal feeling on jumpsuits is that no young woman should ever have to see a man in a jumpsuit. That is abuse.

Why are we not surprised? Mike, love the jumpsuit!

The geese look great. Now you can have a Christmas goose.
Jumpsuit looks cool and the only things missing are the ascot and beret. Wait until Annie is about 16 then wear the jumpsuit and see how she likes it when her date comes to pick her up and you greet him wearing your fashion statement.
I paid $30 for a flu shot 2 weeks ago then the next day the bus company posted a notice that they were offering them for $10.50 at a local clinic. The government has its beauracracy and it can be so frustrating at times.

Aw, Mike shot the Yuba City High School mascot. Our kids were known as Honkers when they were in high school!
    The jumpsuit is impressive.

    SP & Jenni-
I have nobody to blame but you 2 for the jumpsuit purchases. You didn’t warn me or train me in defense of Mike’s future antics.

    Dennis-
You still need to send me your size for your jumpsuit and beret. That’s a bummer about your flu shot cost. I, too, almost paid $25 for each of us to get shots. Fortunately, Mike found out that we could get them at base. Although it wasn’t easy getting them, so typical of the military.

    Janet & Trang-
Ever since we moved away from all our endo friends Mike has gone a little crazy. He was discussing getting a monocle fitting last night. He needs Andy & Matt’s help. I also think that’s a sweet picture of Mimi and Lucy. Lucy was actually growling as I was taking the picture.

    MaStubz-
I’m sure Mike feels very guilty about shooting your h.s. mascot;)

    CC-
    Whatever!!
