wishing upon a bone

Last Saturday Mike went out “hunting” pheasants with Seth. They came home with 5 birds. Mike and Seth decided we should have a pheasant feast on Sunday night. They made pheasant poppers and pheasant noodle soup while Julie and I chatted away (I did make crescent rolls). It was a nice evening with the Johnsons. At the end of the dinner date the kids and men broke the wishbones.

All lined up and ready to get broken.

Alyssa and Annie are first up, and Alyssa gets the biggest piece. Annie was a bit sad and kept saying, “I never win the wishes!”

Mike wins the wish.

Feast your eyes on Mike’s 3rd gargantuan fish full of eggs. Annie was the photographer this time, and she took a picture of Mimi, too.

We’ve all been sick again. Mike missed half a day on Tuesday from work and is actually at the doctor right now getting a throat culture. The doc suspects swine flu and told him he has to go home today and take tomorrow off, too. Mimi and I don’t feel as rotten as Mike, but we have quite a nasty cough. I felt pretty icky yesterday but am feeling better today. I just pray that Violet doesn’t fall ill.

I am very pleased that you didn’t post my wishing picture. I put this in a comment to you on my blog but in case you didn’t see it, Alyssa told me that she used her wish to wish for Annie to get an American Girl doll. She told me Annie never stopped talking about it all night. So no pressure, Mike. If you still didn’t want to get the doll for Annie, you will only be breaking my daughter’s poor little wishing heart.

Sorry about the house full of sickos. Chloe is still coughing and runny nosed and now Seth seems to be coming down with something. I feel like there is just no avoiding this dumb swine flu.

Oh, and by the way, dinner was so, SO yummy. I was really worried because I had never had pheasant but I loved it! Thanks for sharing the birds.

    Julie-
That is so sweet of Alyssa to wish for someone else’s needs (actually wants). I’m sure despite Mike’s objections that the girls will their wish this Christmas. If it’s the only thing they (or really just Annie) wants, then how can you disappoint little girls on Christmas Day.

I’m glad you liked the pheasant. It’s pretty good stuff. I had leftover poppers for lunch the other day. So good!

Mike just texted me saying he has strep. Wonderful!

Hope all you sickos get better. Have fun taking care of Mr. Streppy-pants, who will probably need round the clock care, the poor little guy.

    That is some fish!

And my wish would also be that Annie got her wish. Take that, Mike!

You guys and your hunting. I never knew Mike was so into all of that stuff. I hope you guys get better soon.

I know the feeling – first Cole was sick (fever/sore throat then cough/cold) for 2 weeks, now Nikki….I think there is just no avoiding it this year. Half their swim team has the same bug and several schools have shut down until Monday here in NH & VT. So far (knock on wood) I’m okay and George too, but considering how long it took for Nikki to get the “bug” after Cole had it I’m guessing we’re just next in line at this point.

My recommendation – make pie (details on my blog tastes good even if you’re tired – this is of course for yourself – tell Mike sorry but his throat is too sore for pie :-)

Hope you all feel better soon.

Hope you all get better soon. That is never fun. At least you were healthy to have a phesident dinner. American Girl Dolls are where it is at. My girls all have one (two have two) and it has been worth it. We have lost legs and sent dolls to the hospital and it is worth it!! They still love their dolls! I have had fun sewing clothes for the dolls, too.

Strep–yuck, but that is better than swine flu at least. Hope you don’t all catch it! The pheasant fiesta looks like a great time!!
